SVXfiles Subaru Performance and Repair

Directions to SVXfiles Subaru Performance and Repair from the Pennsylvania Turnpike

From Pittsburgh, Ohio and the west:

Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76 east) to Exit 110, Somerset / Johnstown.  Go straight through the traffic lights (I think there are 3 -- about a mile total) and turn left onto Main Street (PA-31).  Go about 1/4-1/2 mile and bear right at the light onto Berlin Plank Road, towards US-219.

Follow US-219 about 8 miles, into Berlin (watch your speed when you come into Berlin) until you come to a flashing traffic signal.  From here you have two choices;  BOTH routes are pretty twisty and there are deer to watch out for, especially if you are traveling after sunset.

(Option A) - go straight and stay on US-219, following it about 15-20 miles until you come to Interstate 68, then follow the directions for I-68 eastbound (below); OR

(Option B) - make a left, go about 4/10 mile and turn right on PA-160.  This route is shorter, but more complicated (and more scenic, in my opinion.) Follow PA-160 for approximately 12 miles until you cross the state line into Maryland, at which point the road becomes MD-47.  Follow MD-47 approximately 1 mile and you will come to a "T" intersection with MD-36.  Make a left on MD-36, follow it approx. 3 miles until you come to the intersection (traffic light) with US-40.  Bear left (basically, go straight and stay on the same road) on Route 40 and follow it all the way through downtown Cumberland.

At the end of town, stay on the same road and it will become Route 51 (Industrial Blvd.)  Keep to the right and take the Canal Parkway exit towards the Airport.  After about 1.5-2 miles, you will cross a small bridge into West Virginia and will be on WV Route 28.  (You will see a sign for the Airport and then a sign welcoming you to West Virginia.)  Approximately 1/2 mile after you pass the "Welcome to WV" sign, you will crest a hill.  SLOW DOWN at this point.  Just over the crest of the hill, make a left on Maple Avenue (which becomes Old Airport Road), directly across the street from the Wiley Ford Animal Clinic (on the right).  [If you pass the right turn onto Alt. Route 28, you have gone too far.  You can turn around in Hagen's Restaurant parking lot (on the right), get back on Route 28 heading north and look for Maple Avenue on the right.]

Follow Maple Avenue/Old Airport Road for exactly 2 miles.  WARNING: This road is very windy with no guardrails in most places.  Take it easy.  Just before the 2-mile mark you will see a sign on the right for Swan Pond.  The next left is Shady Hill Lane.  We are at the corner of Old Airport Road and Shady Hill Lane (brown siding and stone house with a BIG garage).  Our driveway is on Old Airport Road, just past Shady Hill.  If you are towing a vehicle, you can just make the left onto Shady Hill and park in front of the house.

A word to the wise:  If you have a tendency to go heavy on the gas pedal, WATCH YOUR SPEED on the Canal Parkway and WV Route 28.  The speed limit is only 40 MPH. The WV State Police like to sit just over the state line and ticket people who aren't paying attention to their speed. Try to keep it under 45.

The speed limit drops from 65 MPH to 55 MPH at mile 40 and decreases to 50 and then 40 when you get near downtown.  Also, the speed limit on the Canal Parkway and WV Route 28 is only 40 MPH. The WV State Police like to sit just over the state line and ticket people who aren't paying attention to their speed. Try to keep it under 45.
